Final Market Risk Capital Rule Published

The OCC, Federal Reserve, and FDIC have published in the Federal Register a final rule that amends their respective market risk capital rules, which generally apply to banking organizations that engage in substantial trading activity. The revised rule requires banking organizations with significant trading activities to adjust their capital requirements to better account for the activities’ market risks. The agencies expect that the revisions will significantly increase the risk-based capital allocated to market risk at institutions covered by the rule.

The final rule will be effective January 1, 2013.
