SEC Names Head of the Office of Municipal Securities

The SEC today announced that municipal securities expert John J. Cross III has been named the director of the agency’s new Office of Municipal Securities, mandated by Dodd-Frank. One of the functions of the office will be to coordinate with the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.

Mr. Cross served as the Associate Tax Legislative Counsel in the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Treasury Department, where he played a significant role in the Treasury Department’s efforts to address municipal bond market challenges in the 2008 financial crisis.
