President Obama nominated two senior Senate staffers to fill upcoming vacancies on the SEC.
Michael Piwowar currently serves as chief economist for the Senate Banking Committee and would replace commissioner Troy Paredes, whose term ends in June. Piwowar has previously served as a senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisers and as an economist at the SEC.
Kara Stein currently is a legal counsel and senior policy adviser to Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and would fill a slot left open by commissioner Elisse Walter, who can serve until the end of the year or until a replacement is confirmed. Stein previously was staff director for the Senate Banking Committee’s subcommittee on securities, insurance and investment.
