GAO Will Investigate CFPB Data Collections

The Government Accountability Office wrote to Senator Crapo to inform the Senator that the GAO will begin work shortly to investigate the CFPB’s data collection efforts.

Senator Crapo wrote the GAO earlier this month requesting that the agency investigate the “big data” collection effort being undertaken by the CFPB on consumer spending habits to ensure consumer privacy is protect and that the CFPB is acting within its existing authority.

The GAO did not specify when the investigation would be complete.
