Judge Delays Interchange Ruling One Week

Various news outlets have reported that U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon has given the Federal Reserve one week to determine if it can issues an interim final rule to change its debit card interchange rule.

Judge Leon also scheduled a hearing for September 16 to determine whether banks or payment networks might have to pay damages and return some of the fees that were charges under the original interchange rule.

Judge Leon’s previous ruling overturned the Fed’s debit-card interchange rule which has been in place since Oct. 1. 2011.
