The CFTC approved, by a vote of 3-1, to propose regulation on position limits for derivatives. The proposed regulation would limit speculative positions in 28 selected physical commodity futures and swaps, including wheat, oil and gold.
In September 2012, a district court issued an order that generally vacated the CFTC’s previous attempt to issue a position limit rule.
