Review Urges OCC Exam Changes

An international review panel has recommended several changes to improve the OCC’s supervision of large and midsize banks. The panel recommendations include expanding the role of lead experts, better integrating the CAMELS rating system with the Risk Assessment System, moving OCC staff from individual banks to shared field offices to better promote information-sharing and camaraderie, involving examiners-in-charge and lead experts in peer reviews, better employing close-to-retirement and private-sector experts and launching the OCC’s quality control practices as soon as possible.
