Fed Extends Comment Period on Physical Commodities

The Federal Reserve extended the comment period for its advanced notice of proposed rulemaking on physical commodities, as ABA requested. The issues at stake call for additional time in order to consult with members and offer well-thought-out comments, ABA and other trade groups said in a joint request for an extension.

The Fed last month signaled its intent to issue further rules on bank involvement in physical commodities businesses, seeking comment on several issues related to the risks posed to financial holding companies by physical commodities activities.

Comments are now due April 16.
