Holder Calls for National Data Breach Standard

Attorney General Eric Holder urged Congress to pass a law establishing a national standard for reporting and responding to consumer data breaches, which he said would strengthen law enforcement’s ability to bring cyber criminals to justice while protecting consumer privacy. In his weekly video message, Holder said:

“It is time for leaders in Washington to provide the tools that we need to do even more, requiring businesses to notify American consumers and law enforcement in the wake of data breaches. Today, I’m calling on Congress to create a strong national standard for quickly alerting consumers whose information may have been compromised.”
