CFPB Outlines Nonbank Supervision

“We are now increasingly able to level the playing field between banks and their nonbank competitors for the first time. These changes are most notable for the nonbank institutions, but for many banks as well,” CFPB Deputy Director Steve Antonakes said in a speech at the Consumer Bankers Association.

Antonakes outlined the areas where the CFPB’s has more recently expanded its supervision of nonbanks, such as monitoring debt collection practices and student loan servicing, as well as expanding supervision of large bank auto lenders to include large nonbank auto lenders.
