Three Subpoenas Issued in CFPB Discrimination and Retaliation Investigation

The House Financial Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee voted to subpoena two CFPB officials, Stacey Bach and Liza Strong, and the EVP of the CFPB employees’ union, Ben Konop, after the CFPB and National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) did not allow them to appear as witnesses at a subcommittee hearing investigating allegations of discrimination and retaliation against employees at the CFPB. The subcommittee is investigating these allegations after it was exposed that CFPB performance reviews were shown to rank Caucasian employees better than minorities in performance reviews and to “favor Caucasian men and of creating a hostile work environment.” CFPB employees had filed 115 official grievances with the NTEU and over 85 informal complaints pertaining to “allegations of unequal pay and raise questions about the recent performance reviews.”
