CFTC Paying Millions for Unused Space

The CFTC is currently using just one-third of its Kansas City Regional office for which it pays $44,000 per month, according to a letter from CFTC Inspector General A. Roy Lavik. At the current rate, the agency will pay approximately $3.6 million for vacant office space over the life of the 10-year lease. The Office of the Inspector General recommends that the CFTC take immediate steps to dispose of the excess space, as well as review its underutilization of space in other regional offices and headquarters.
