ABA Offers Feedback on FDIC’s Small Business Lending Survey

In a letter, ABA provided feedback on the consumer bank account section of the FDIC’s proposed small business lending survey. The consumer banking section was included as part of the Federal Deposit Insurance Reform Conforming Amendments Act of 2005, which requires the FDIC to conduct ongoing surveys on banks’ efforts to reach the underbanked or unbanked.

The survey will allow the FDIC to collect information related to maintenance and overdraft fees, minimum balance requirements, prepaid cards and applicant screening practices. The results of the survey are expected to be used by the agency to evaluate access to bank accounts and overdraft practices. ABA proposed several edits to the survey that would allow for more accurate and robust data gathering.
