OCC Issues Guidance Ahead of Securities Settlement Cycle Changes

As banks prepare for impending changes to the securities settlement cycle, the OCC issued guidance to help financial institutions ensure that they are ready for the Sept. 5, 2017 compliance date. As of that date, the regular industry settlement cycle for many U.S. securities including equities, corporate and municipal bonds and unit investment trusts – and financial instruments composed of those products – will be shortened from the third business day after the trade date to the second business day after the trade date.
